JAMES LOCKSMITH

Hailing from Sydney, James Locksmith is a DJ, producer and music curator based in Dubai. A passion for dance music, travel and learning about diverse cultures from around the world have led James on a colourful music path.  James lives between Australia, Dubai and Greece, and has been producing and programming world class, instrumental projects and events and DJing from bars to festival stages for nearly 20 years.

James moved to Dubai in 2011 and immediately became an integral part of a new groundbreaking alternative club scene in the GCC and Middle East. 

He co-founded the popular DUST parties from 2011 and in no time his reputation was on the rise and talent in demand. James started partnering with other forward thinking brands such as Beirut Groove Collective, Third Eye Crew, Analog Room, SATWA 3000, MUTEK, SOLE DXB, 264 Cru, Art Dubai and Groove on the Grass.

James has dedicated his DJ career to house, techno, disco, boogie, funk, jazz, electronic and hip hop music from all corners of the globe. You’ll hear his unique sound in his DJ sets, whether mixing an Afro disco nugget into Detroit techno, or classic acid house into a Go-go boogie track. His passion and sheer joy are palpable when he plays, generously unearthing noteworthy musical sounds to his receptive audience, who are usually seen grooving and getting down to his well crafted in-depth DJ sets.

Throughout his DJ career, James has shared the stage and DJ booth with incredible artists like Giles Peterson, Nicolas Jaar, Hot Chip, Nightmares On Wax, Nicola Cruz, Femi Kuti, Princess Nokia, Knxledge, Dam-Funk, Kenny Dope, Danny Krivit and many more.

James has been at the forefront of music, as a DJ and curator, within programming, label management, distribution, radio, sound design, tours and events since the early 2000’s.  He is recognised and respected across the globe for his DJ sets and his role in the development of independent music communities

James is also a co-producer of New York’s Turntables on the Hudson with long time friend Nickodemus, having focussed on exporting the popular event to Australia, the MENA region and Greece since 2005.  He also works directly with Red Bull Music and RBMA Bass Camp UAE events since 2012.
